Where to open a laptop in Marin

cafes, taprooms, and other tables that will not glare at you for staying.

These are the tables I would send a friend to. Coffee, beer, books, and libraries. I only mentioned wifi when the place said so.

  1. Sausalito

    Firehouse Coffee & Tea

    317 Johnson Street. A small cafe next to the fire station. They put free wifi on their own site and say locals come in to get work done. Daily 7am to 4pm. It is not huge, so go when you can claim a table.

  2. Larkspur

    Equator Coffees

    240 Magnolia Avenue. Indoor and outdoor seats, and they say there is free wifi and that it is a place to work. Weekdays 6:30am to 5pm, weekends 7am to 5pm.

  3. Larkspur

    Rustic Bakery

    2017 Larkspur Landing Circle, Larkspur. Bread, salads, a table. Open daily 7am to 5pm. I am not claiming wifi.

  4. Corte Madera

    Book Passage

    51 Tamal Vista Boulevard. Coffee and a table among the books. Monday through Saturday 10am to 6pm, Sunday 11am to 6pm. Wifi is not on their site, so I am not writing it in.

  5. Mill Valley

    Mill Valley Public Library

    375 Throckmorton Avenue. A real sit-down library, open late most weekdays. Monday through Wednesday 10am to 8pm, Thursday 8am to 8pm, Friday and Saturday 10am to 5pm, Sunday noon to 5pm.

  6. San Rafael

    Pond Farm Brewing Co.

    1848 Fourth Street. A spacious taproom, not a coffee shop. Plenty of outdoor seating too. This is an afternoon and evening table, not a morning desk. Monday through Thursday 3pm to 9pm, Friday and Saturday noon to 10pm, Sunday noon to 9pm. (415) 524-8709.

    Civic Center Library

    3501 Civic Center Drive, Room 427. Wifi is on their page. Weekdays 9am to 6pm. Closed Saturday and Sunday.

  8. Fairfax

    Fairfax Library

    2097 Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Free wifi inside, and more at the picnic tables and patio in the garden. Study carrels if you want a quieter corner. Monday through Thursday 9am to 8pm, Friday and Saturday 10am to 5pm. Closed Sunday.

  9. Fairfax

    Fairfax Brewing Company

    765 Center Boulevard. Open daily 11:30am to 9pm. A taproom you can sit in for a stretch. Wifi is not on their site, so treat that as a maybe.

  10. Novato

    Dr. Insomniac's

    800 Grant Avenue. Indoor seats and a patio. Visit Novato lists free wifi. Their own site was down when I checked. It is a morning place, often with a line for coffee.
