Heath Ceramics

Edith and Brian Heath started this in 1948. The Sausalito factory opened in 1959, and the dinnerware is still made there, start to finish, by about forty people. Clay, form, glaze, fire. Tile is a different factory, in San Francisco.

   Factory and showroom

   400 Gate Five Road. Daily 10 to 5. Come in from Harbor Drive; Gate 5 Road is a mess. Dinnerware made in the building. Seconds in the same place.

2. Sausalito

   Factory tour

   About an hour, fifteen dollars, RSVP. Closed-toe shoes. No kids under five. Then you end up in the showroom.
