Two places in Marin where you can roll bocce on public courts without joining a league. Hill Recreation Area in Novato has six courts with lights for evening play. Dunphy Park in Sausalito has three oyster-shell courts right on the waterfront. Both are first come, first served.

1. Novato

   Hill Recreation Area

   Six lighted bocce courts at 1560 Hill Road, next to the Margaret Todd Center and Hill Gymnasium. Open daily 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The lights mean you can play after dark.

2. Sausalito

   Dunphy Park

   Three oyster-shell courts at Bridgeway and Napa Street, right on the water. First come, first served. You can rent them for a private event if you want the space to yourself.
